“Sing to Him a new song; Play skilfully with a shout of joy” Psalm 33:3
“He has put a new song in my mouth—Praise to Our God” Psalm 40:3
“I will sing a new song to You, O God; on a harp of ten strings I will sing praises to You” Psalm 144:9 NKJV
Here are some other Scriptures from the Amplified Bible:
“Sing to the Lord a new song; sing to the Lord, all the earth!” Psalm 96:1
“Praise the Lord! Sing to the Lord a new song, praise Him in the assembly of His saints” Psalm 149:1
These Scriptures clearly command us to sing a “new song” to Him. This indicates His desire! Our songs are not primarily for people; our songs are for the Great I Am! Sometimes we may forget, or maybe we get sidetracked in focusing our attention on pleasing those who have come out on a Sunday morning, but this was never the original biblical focus of worship. When God is pleased, His children are often blessed as a result! It is similar to when we seek His face and not His hand, He just blesses us out of the overflow. When we come to Him purposely to seek His hand and what we can get from Him, it is like going to our parents and wanting something, but we are reluctant to hang out and just enjoying spending time with them. God desires our fellowship and love. He longs to spend time with us. Getting something from Him should not be our main desire. (Balance Point: We are not saying that the people who come to worship with us are to be ignored….on the contrary, we are very concerned with their wants and needs. It is just not our first priority, that is what I am saying here)
Our first priority is Him and His desires. After that comes the desires of the people. He desires that we open our hearts and truly worship Him, from our innermost being!
Jesus found us, called us, saved us, equipped us and loves us so dearly such as no human mind will ever be able to totally comprehend! “When a man’s ways please the Lord, He makes even his enemies to be at peace with him” Proverbs 16:7 AMP. I’m sure all of us would absolutely enjoy it if our enemies were at peace with us, right? Then we need to pursue and investigate what exactly does it mean to please the Lord. That sounds like an excellent idea to me, how about you?
Let’s take a look at King Jehoshaphat for a moment:
In the Bible, in 2 Chronicles 20:21-22, “When he (King Jehosaphat) had consulted with the people, he appointed those who sang to the Lord and those who praised Him in holy attire, as they went out before the army and sang, “Give thanks to the Lord for His lovingkindness is everlasting.” When they began singing and praising, the Lord set ambushes against the sons of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir, who had come against Judah; so they were routed.” (Notice it says “When they began singing and praising” If they had not taken action and started to sing …… nothing would have happened) Some of us may remember reading in the Bible, “…the LORD does not deliver by sword or by spear; for the battle is the LORD’s and He will give it into our hands”! (1 Samuel 17:47) We praise and worship Him, and then He goes out to battle for the sake of His righteousness, as His perfect will desires. He responds when we obey! He chooses to use us! This is a mystery! I for one am thankful that He wants to use us!
What about today? We know the Lord is the same yesterday, today and forever. (Heb. 13:8) I believe that He is doing the same today! As we please and adore Him, during worship, He begins to rout His enemies and makes our enemies to be at peace with us, just as He made Jehosaphat’s enemies to be at peace with him. We worship……He routs! I like this plan! It’s about Him and His strategies, for the battle truly belongs to the Lord! Lets keep in mind that the Holy Spirit may direct us to pray for or against a certain circumstance from time to time. We always need to depend on His leading, and not ours, or someone elses.
The Hebrew meaning of the word “routed” is: to push, gore, defeat, inflict (a disease): — beat, dash, hurt, plague, slay, smite (down), strike, stumble, put to the worse.
Let’s focus our eyes, and our personal and corporate worship on the King of Kings and Lord of Lords and begin to see how He truly moves in our midst! It’s exciting to align our hearts with His heart, our songs with His songs and remember that He loves it when we worship Him with a song from our hearts. I believe He is especially excited when it is what Psalms calls a new song.
Minstrels of God, He has anointed you with a unique sound and a unique voice. You are called to be on the frontlines of the battle, just as those worshipers who went before Jehosaphat’s army. They sang their way to victory! We can also sing our way to victory by focusing on the only One who is able to rout the evil enemies of righteousness! Our part is to be obedient and enter in with a pure heart. We are called to press in, until the purity of worship drives the satanic forces into torment. I have often felt that there is a moment when a breaking of the power of the enemy happens during worship, and then everything changes. It takes focus and perseverance to endure until the breakthrough occurs. It is not predictable! It is not a formula! It is not a technique! Only by the leading of the Holy Spirit does He use us to trample down the schemes and strategies of the enemy of our souls, and sometimes without even knowing it.
After the breakthrough comes, healings and deliverances happen! The sound of purity unto Him and Him alone torments and drives all the devils out of the vicinity. Peace pervades the atmosphere as joy and laughter loft up as a fragrance of incense into the atmosphere!
Minstrels, there is a sound in your heart that is waiting to erupt like a wave in the atmosphere. I ask you to allow the Holy Spirit to flow through you and take you deeper into His realms of glory. The God who created every unique fingerprint, every unique eye scan, and every unique voice in the world does not relish repetition and predictability. He is continually creating and recreating every single day, ever since the beginning of time! He is infinite, He is never bored, and never runs out of new ideas!
He has implanted into each of us, specific and unique gifts. Many of these gifts are still waiting to be uncovered and unleashed. We are called to worship extravagantly and passionately, focused on His plans, His heart, His desires, and for His pleasure!
He is waiting for us to enter into this glory zone. He often pours out a overflowing blessing that we are unable to contain! What an adventure! We were born for such a time as this! We are not waiting for Him; He is waiting for us!
