It seems that more and more of us modern Christians are getting more and more intelligent, wouldn’t you agree? Well we are almost as smart as the people in the secular positions of knowledge. Why we are even going there, astounds me! I love when the Bible assaults our thought patterns! It is always a challenge to see how it will all turn out, when there is a war for the mind between what the Bible says and what all the books and knowledge stored in all the libraries of the world say. We know that many Christians today are drifting, into accepting things like: there is no hell, homosexuality is OK, the Bible is not literal, God is a God of love, He would never hurt anyone, etc. etc.
Have you ever drifted in a boat, perhaps when you were fishing and there was hardly any wind, and the water was calm, so there seemed to be no need to throw out the anchor? All of a sudden you are shocked to find that you are approaching a dangerous area that could damage your boat, or worse, a boat that you had borrowed from a friend? You are calmly fishing, enjoying the sun, the peace, and the prospect of a ‘big one’ when all of sudden there’s this big rock about to scrape, or worse, dent the boat. What do you do? You probably frantically start to paddle or row with everything you have in order to avoid the danger, RIGHT? Well, I would like to challenge you this morning to test how far you have drifted off the literal Word of God. You know there can be hidden Scriptures that are not often uncovered by many. Here is one that struck me recently while talking to a friend.
Check this out from Joshua 10 :
12 Then Joshua spoke to the LORD in the day when the LORD delivered up the Amorites before the sons of Israel, and he said in the sight of Israel,
“O sun, stand still at Gibeon,
And O moon in the valley of Aijalon.”
13 So the sun stood still, and the moon stopped,
Until the nation avenged themselves of their enemies.
Is it not written in the book of Jashar? And the sun stopped in the middle of the sky and did not hasten to go down for about a whole day. 14 There was no day like that before it or after it, when the LORD listened to the voice of a man; for the LORD fought for Israel.
15 Then Joshua and all Israel with him returned to the camp to Gilgal.”
How about that for a challenge? I know, especially for men that our logical minds usually dominate our thinking. How about the logic in this record from Joshua, people? How about the ladies out there, have you ever really considered this event? It is nothing short of astounding! I have a friend who told me that my record of my watch losing 30 minutes during a night of sleep was the fourth incident of “Linear Time Suspension” that had been discussed with him over the last few days. How about that? What is going on? Are we ready for this sort of sign and wonder? I want you to note something about the above Scripture, please. Joshua said in the sight of Israel, “O sun, stand still at Gibeon, and O moon in the valley of Aijalon” He had the courage to declare it in front of all of Israel. Have you ever considered this pastors, you’re standing up in front of your people and you declare _________ __________ ____ _____________! What kind of courage does this take? A supernatural courage that can only be achieved through the Spirit of God! This is not a NAME IT AND CLAIM IT DECLARATION people!! Please don’t start talking to the clouds to move them out of the sky or any other such presumptuous thing. This is the very real and very dangerous power of God manifesting in our midst. This is not for the faint hearted or the emotionally charged zealots who like to do things to receive attention. This kind of messing with God’s power can get you killed, LITERALLY!
54 And He was also saying to the crowds, “When you see a cloud rising in the west, immediately you say, ‘A shower is coming,’ and so it turns out. 55 “And when you see a south wind blowing, you say, ‘It will be a hot day,’ and it turns out that way. 56 “You hypocrites! You know how to analyze the appearance of the earth and the sky, but why do you not analyze this present time? (Luke 12:54-56)
Aren’t we like this? We are so good at talking and discerning the natural world and yet the supernatural world is still so vague to us. We can be likened to ‘professors in the natural sciences’ but ‘babes in the spiritual things of God.’ This is not how God intended it! When you talk with your brothers and sisters in Christ, what do you talk about? Do you stir the passion for more of Him and the expectations you have brewing inside you? Do you? What do you talk about? It is vital that we fix our minds on the things of God as paramount in all of our attention! How many of you have come to agree with the statement that, “This person is too heavenly minded to be any earthly good?” Have you drifted from the fresh stream of the river? Have you compromised your faith? It is very, very important to be constantly vigilant as to how your belief in the literal Word of God has become milked-down! I hope that all of you can say, “No, I am so impassioned for the things of God!” Smith Wigglesworth said that if you are not closer to God today than yesterday, you are backsliding!!” Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees! The religious system today is no different than the religious system of Jesus’ day, which had mutated the Scriptures and added to them! They did not recognize the author of the Scriptures when He walked among them and spoke Words of Life to them! No…they had made a ‘god’ of their own creation. They called him ‘God’ but he was really ‘god’. It’s tragic that some of us have become turned, and most of us are unaware of our own turning! I write this today not to condemn you but to ask you to take an inventory of your heart and your convictions to see if YOU have drifted in your resolve to follow Jesus at all costs. “Though none go with me, still I will follow” (From the song, “I Have Decided to Follow Jesus”)
One more challenging Scripture for today from John 6:
19 Then, when they had rowed about three or four miles, they saw * Jesus walking on the sea and drawing near to the boat; and they were frightened. 20 But He said * to them, “It is I; do not be afraid.” 21 So they were willing to receive Him into the boat, and immediately the boat was at the land to which they were going.
Did you see it? When Jesus entered the boat, they were immediately on the other side, folks…that defied time…they got to the other side IMMEDIATELY!! Maybe you are saying, yes but that was Jesus! One more phrase that caught my attention was: they received Him into the boat!!! We need to receive Him into our boats….Oh what a ride we will have!! Remember, Jesus said that we would do all things that He had done and more. Do you believe it? C’mon, be honest with yourself…it could save your life, in the very near future!!!! Where are the watchmen on the wall?
Sincerely, with all our hearts,
Rob and Jody
