A Listening Heart

We know that Solomon was a man who was given extreme wisdom by God. We read in 1 Kings 3:9, “So give your servant an understanding heart to judge Your people to discern between good and evil. For who is able to judge this great people of Yours?” At first glance it seems incredible that God would instantly give this request to Solomon as it says in verse 12, “Behold, I have done according to your words. Behold I have given you a wise and discerning heart, so that there has been no one like you before you, nor shall one like you arise after you.” In the charismatic Christian church today we are accustomed to “impartation and the laying on of hands”.. We go from conference to conference in search of such impartations. I myself have done it! Solomon got the ultimate impartation, don’t you think? Many of us would seek to be “wise” like Solomon, wouldn’t we? Oh…it would be so great to never be sidetracked again by evil because we would be able to discern between good and evil as it says above in verse 9. The best part of all of this is that Solomon never had to go to school or read a thousand books to get this wisdom….God just gave it to him. But….what exactly did he give to him? Let’s examine the text to unravel a wonderful mystery that should stir you to dig deeper with God.

When we look at Solomon’s request in verse 9, it is very interesting indeed! When Solomon asked for an understanding heart to judge….the actual meaning was “a hearing heart”…mmm….that’s a little different than many people’s concept of wisdom and understanding. If we back up to verse 8 in 1 Kings 3, we need to take notice that Solomon says, “I am but a little child; I do not know how to go out or come in”.. This declaration precedes the request in verse 9. We see that Solomon humbles himself before God and declares that all that he has is nothing and he declares that he is unable to judge this great people. Humility precedes the gift of God! Why is all of this so important? Let me dig a little deeper here. If we consider that wisdom is NOT having a library full of books and being able to quote from them all! Wisdom is not living a hundred years and being able to share your life experiences with everyone! First of all the Bible says:

The proverbs of Solomon the son of David, king of Israel:
To know wisdom and instruction,
To discern the sayings of understanding,
To receive instruction in wise behavior,
Righteousness, justice and equity;
To give prudence to the naive,
To the youth knowledge and discretion,
A wise man will hear and increase in learning,
And a man of understanding will acquire wise counsel,
To understand a proverb and a figure,
The words of the wise and their riddles.
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge;
Fools despise wisdom and instruction. (PROVERBS 1:1-7)

There is so much here that refutes the modern understanding of wisdom. In Proverbs 1 we see that even the youth can be wise. We see that if we have a hearing heart, all of these wonderful gifts can be ours. Never forget though that the Fear of the Lord is the BEGINNING of this divine knowledge! So what is the difference between the worldly understanding of knowledge and the Biblical understanding? We see that in order to be esteemed as a wise man or woman in the world, you need to have the required degrees along with excellent grades to bolster up your resume. This puts people into a competitive race to win the grand prize of material wealth and honour among their peers! Now let’s look at the Biblical view of wisdom.

If we seek a “Hearing Heart” what does it mean? I believe that there is a huge difference! If we have a situation before us that needs an answer, the worldly man or woman would seek answers in books, through their inner understanding, their experience, and through other people. This is not a bad way to seek the answer, but God has a better way, what is it? When a Godly man seeks an answer to a problem at hand, he seeks the One who has all of the answers and is infinite! God is waiting for to give to His children what they need! He is our provider! When we need something….He is our source! The worldly way of attaining the answer is intermingled with pride, because the answer comes from man; God’s way of attaining the answer is immersed in humility because without Him, we would be unable to attain the solution. These two approaches are so different!

(Note: I am not against learning from other men and women of God, but actually, I applaud great books and videos from the saints who have lived a prostrated life before the Lord)

Now to bring this all up to the present day, and apply this wonderful revelation to today, I would like to ask you if the Lakeland disaster would have occurred, if the leaders who are positioned to be watchers for God, who endorsed this thing, had a true “Hearing Heart”? We have become so “self-preservation” minded in the Body of Christ that our discernment (Hearing Heart) has become so dull that satan can easily blind-side us! The only way to avoid another Lakeland is if the men and women of God who are set in position to watch over the the sheep and keep them from danger, develop a Hearing Heart from the Lord. I have read a couple of recent releases from these men of God, who are to be watching for the wolf, and the letters have not been open, or repentant enough, in my estimation! How long will we accept the utter blindness of many leaders (not all)? “Their” Ministries have become so big that a slight blip in the financial flow could topple the empires they have spent so long in building! It is repulsive to watch! The church of Christ has become a business! Come to the alter men and women of God, and let the Body of Christ know that you “MISSED IT”! ………………………………PLEASE!!!!

I can take it when someone admits that they out and out missed it, rather than putting a band-aid upon the festering wound and tell everyone that it is “All Good” now! GIVE ME A BREAK! Where are the press releases from the supposedly “Mighty Prophets and Apostles”? I am waiting for their breaking before a mighty God for allowing this disastrous outcome in Florida to go this far! I read a release yesterday that utterly repulsed me with the whitewashing approach that this world famous minister took! Take responsibility for your blindness! Where are the Watchmen on the Wall looking out for the approaching enemy and being diligent to blow the shofar to warn the people? It seems that most of these Kingly Leaders are too busy partying to be watching! It is time to reverse the trend to build Ministry Kingdoms with Prophet Kings and Apostolic Kings and Evangelist Kings and get back in line with the only King, our King Jesus! God will allow us to wander in our vanity as long as we desire it! If our Hearing Hearts have not developed enough to listen to the only source where the “pure water” flows, how else can it end up? There is perfect counsel in Him, if we will “Hear O People of God!

You and I can seek a “Hearing Heart” from the Lord, as He is no respecter of persons. Then we will be able to discern between good and evil and not be drawn into the sidelines traps placed there by the enemy of our souls! We can become “Oracles” of the wisdom of God, by lining up with Him and then, waiting for the download from heaven which is His divine counsel. Another conference and impartation session is NOT what we need right now! We need to tune in, realign our antennae, and recalibrate our sensors to the perfect wisdom of God. Then we will have a “Hearing Heart” to hear His counsel day or night, for every situation. There were many “No-Name Watchers on the Wall” warning people against the Carnival in Florida, but the ones who were set in leadership positions remained suspiciously silent! Let us humble ourselves before mighty God! This whirlwind called “Revival” has put a nasty stain on the sincere saints who are giving everything for their King Jesus all over the world! We need to embrace the “Nameless, Faceless ones” who are sold out for Jesus, and not obsessed with their ‘Kingdom Building Enterprises’! Some of these ministries have grown so big that “The Tail Wags the Dog”. We need to see humble repentance for these people for their Blindness! These leaders need to ask God for a “Hearing Heart”.. Then we can get on with the work of God in this world! Remember God never wanted a King in Israel; it was the people who desired it! There is only One who is King!

I encourage you to seek God (ask Him) for a Hearing Heart and pray that your discernment (greatly lacking today) would grow by leaps and bounds! Love the good and Hate evil in every step you take in this world! Hallelujah! It is attainable without 20 years of university! God is waiting to give good gifts to those who humble themselves before Him and acknowledge that as Jesus said, we can do nothing without Him. This is for you Warriors of the Lord! Ask God for this gift today! He gave it to Solomon instantly! He may decide to give it to you gradually, but at least the seed will be sown and as you nurture it; it will grow and you will increase steadily in discernment, and you will be able to discern between good and evil! This is not as easy as it sounds! There is great deception out there, but with a Hearing Heart, you will be spared much heartache and discouragement as you see the storm coming before it hits the land. You can then blow the warning trumpet to prepare the people in your sector of responsibility! “Be strong and courageous! Do not tremble or be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go .” ( Joshua 1:9)
